Palestine (the Palestinian Territories — West Bank and Gaza Strip) has a Muslim majority of approximately 93 to 98 percent of the population, with the remainder predominantly Christian. The community is overwhelmingly Sunni of the Shafi'i school, with the Hanafi school holding historical authority through the Ottoman-era court system and a small Druze community on the Carmel and Galilee that, while geographically within historic Palestine, is in present terms primarily within the State of Israel. The Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Haram al-Sharif (Temple Mount) in Jerusalem, originally built in the 7th century and rebuilt in 1035, is the third-holiest site in Sunni Islam after Mecca and Medina, marking the destination of the Prophet Muhammad's Isra' and the location from which the Mi'raj began. The Dome of the Rock, completed in 691 CE under the Umayyad caliph Abd al-Malik, is the oldest extant Islamic monument in the world. The Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, on the Cave of the Patriarchs, is among the most sacred sites for both Muslims and Jews. The Palestinian Authority Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs administers mosque networks. eSalah uses the Egyptian-bis method.
