Pakistan has the second-largest Muslim community in the world by absolute population, estimated at approximately 96.5 percent of the country's 240 million people, numbering roughly 232 million. The community is overwhelmingly Sunni of the Hanafi school, with a substantial Twelver Shia minority of approximately 10 to 20 percent of the population (estimates vary), an Ismaili Shia community concentrated in the northern Hunza and Chitral regions, smaller Bohra communities, and a notable Ahmadiyya community whose legal status was constitutionally redefined in 1974 such that members are not recognized as Muslims under Pakistani law (this distinctive legal status should be noted factually). The Faisal Mosque in Islamabad, opened in 1986, is the largest mosque in South Asia and one of the largest in the world. The Badshahi Mosque in Lahore, built in 1673 under the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, is among the most architecturally significant Mughal mosques and remains a major congregational center. The Council of Islamic Ideology advises the government on Islamic legal matters. eSalah uses the Karachi method (Fajr 18°, Isha 18°). FLAGGED FOR §8 REVIEW (Sunni/Shia/Ahmadiyya).
